Hayley Yu Qin
Hayley Yu Qin is a composer, vocalist, and cellist passionate about cross-genre experiments, interdisciplinary collaborations, and community-based work. Graduated with a master’s degree in contemporary improvisation from the New England Conservatory, Hayley has written and played in multiple traditions such as classical, folk, and jazz, and keeps exploring innovative ways of composition for improvising musicians and dancers.
In 2023, Hayley collaborated with dancers at Boston Conservatory and formed a collective improvisation workshop, where musicians and dancers explored space, rhythm, relation, emotion, and environmental themes in a shared space. Hayley’s most recent artistic interests include the intersection of literary and sonic expression; connection between neuroscience (of memory and trauma) and ecology, music technology, literary and musical traditions of East Asia and West Africa, movement, immersive performances, and research and teaching. Hayley is the recipient of multiple awards from the Banff Centre, Experimental Institute at Antenna Cloud Farm, Silkroad Global Musician Workshop, Collage New Music’s Collage Composers Colloquium, Boston Public Libraries, Hubbard Brook Forest Foundation, City of Boston Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture, New England Foundation for the Arts, Mass Cultural Council, and Big Ears Festival.
Yundu Wang
Yundu Wang is a Chinese-American classical pianist based in Boston, MA. An established soloist, collaborative pianist, and chamber musician, Yundu has performed widely throughout the U.K., U.S., and Europe. Her deep interest in communication in both music and language led to doctoral research on the relationship between musical expression and speech prosody in London, U.K.
An avid chamber musician and collaborator, Yundu has toured throughout the U.K., Germany, and Belgium in various ensembles. Her debut collaborative album Things in Pairs with violinist Audrey Wright (New York Philharmonic) was released on Navona Records in 2022.
Yundu has been invited to numerous festivals and courses including the Yellow Barn Chamber Music Festival, the Perlman Music Program Chamber Music Workshop, Jeunesses Musicale Deutschland, and the Holland Music Sessions. She has worked and collaborated with Itzhak Perlman, Paul Katz, Roger Tapping, Peter Frankl, and the Weilerstein Trio.
Yundu has been awarded prizes at the Honours Competition at the New England Conservatory of Music, the Seiler International Piano Competition, the Julia Crane International Piano Competition, the Cincinnati World Piano Competition, and the Gavrilin International Piano Competition. Beyond performance, Yundu has presented her interdisciplinary research at the 9th International Conference on Speech Prosody in Poznań, Poland. She is also interested in identity as a performer, examining musical expression, East Asian identity, and the performer’s voice in Western classical music.
Yundu received a Doctor of Music at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. She received her Bachelor and Master of Music with Honors from the New England Conservatory of Music, studying with Vivian Weilerstein and Hung-Kuan Chen. Yundu is currently a staff collaborative pianist at the New England Conservatory.
