Asian American Ballet Project

Boston, MA

Job Posting: Company Trainee

Fee: $0

Start Date: June 12, 2023

End Date: July 7, 2023

Description:

Trainees will take class, attend rehearsals, and participate in outreach activities with the Asian American Ballet Project in preparation for the inaugural performance on July 7, 2023 at the Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center.  The Asian American Ballet Project is a newly formed Boston-based ballet company. Our mission is to put Asian American dancers on stage: together – in an all-Asian American ballet company for the first time; telling – stories from our unique perspective; and transforming – how audiences see Asian American dancers onstage, from unexpected to accepted.

Trainees will work with the company 5 days a week, 6 hours a day in order to improve their technique and learn the season repertoire as understudies. Trainees may have the opportunity to perform in the debut show, depending on individual skill level. Trainees will need to provide their own dance attire including all footwear. Trainees may be asked to appear/perform at various outreach events to promote the performance. Trainees will make their best effort to represent the company professionally at such events.

Requirements:

The Asian American Ballet Project seeks to engage dancers of Asian descent. In order to be considered for a trainee position, dancers ages 14-18 should currently be taking at least 5 ballet classes a week at a dance studio that specializes in ballet instruction. Dancers should be proficient en pointe. No professional performance experience is necessary. Trainees will require reliable transportation to Boston area dance studios as well as the theatre in Cambridge.

Selection Process:

For consideration, please email a recent video of class, rehearsal or performance footage to Beth Mochizuki, founder and Artistic Director of the Asian American Ballet Project: beth@asianamericanballetproject.org by April 7, 2023.
